The Mitchells vs. the Machines
The Mitchells vs. the Machines
was a recently released film on Netflix. It was a good, animated film created
by the legendary Lord and Miller who were also the creators of Spiderman into
the spider-verse and the Lego Movie. It starred Abbi Jacobson as the voice of
Katie Mitchell, you may know her as the voice of Bean in Disenchantment as
well.
This movie is about Katie who is
going to college but isn’t happy with her dad, but then, the dad
decides to take her to college on a cross country road trip. While they are on
their way a Robot uprising begins and all the humans are encaged except them
and they try and end the robot uprising in which they succeed.
When I watched this movie, I honestly
loved it because of many reasons such as the animation, which in this movie was
incredible, the characters were shown in 2D and 3D orientation which was amazing and was a
lot like the Spiderman movie Lord and Miller made. All the small details, the
character movement and art was surreal and beautiful to look at and I loved
this movie because of that.
Moreover, this movie was extremely wholesome and hilarious in some parts and overall it was just a fun movie to watch but just like any other animated kids movie it did have some parts where it was just stupid but the movie covered that up with more funny sequences. And 1 aspect of the movie I liked which is a little controversial is the exaggeration of human addiction to phones and Wi-Fi, like in that one scene where the villain turned off the Wi-Fi it showed humans going rogue with weapons and fire and when told there is free WiFi in the pod they quickly went there.
However, just like any movie,
this movie wasn’t perfect either as it had many flaws such as:
This movie was very predictable, it used the same formula as most kids movies and
even though the formula was executed well it was still a little predictable so
it didn’t make me sit at one place in need of knowing what's gonna happen next,
it was very predictable. In addition, the movie’s villain was a little boring
because it didn’t do too much to stop the Mitchells and it wasn’t shown that
often and I think if the villain had been given more lines and scenes it could’ve
been better.
Furthermore, The movie was a little
illogical. For example, the main brother/boy in the film had too deep of a
voice and I am not sure if it was put there as a joke or was intentional but
still, the deep voice of the boy didn’t fit in at first but as the movie went on
I got used to it. In addition, another part of the story that was illogical is
that right after they fail to disable pal in the mall instead of finding another
low security mall or pal store they right away go to the most dangerous choice
of all and into the main headquarters of the villain, which was a little weird
but I get that it was needed to finish the main story with a good ending.

In Conclusion, This movie was a
very funny, wholesome movie with amazing animation and jokes but like any movie
it could have been better by slowing the plot or giving a bigger role to the villain
but it was simply awesome, I loved it because of its stupidity and fun elements
and it was just a movie that you watch without thinking too much and thus I would
give this movie a 7.5/10.
