Oceans 8 (Review)
Ocean's 8 is a sequel movie to Soderbergh's original Ocean’s trilogy directed by Gary Ross. It has Debbie Ocean (played by Sandra Bullock) the sister of Daniel Ocean who was just released from jail and does an amazing jewels heist of the necklace named “Toussaint” at the New York City, Met Gala. In the end, She, and her group of 8 people do the heist and succeed at it gaining each one of themselves a cut of about 16.5 Mil.
This movie was good in my
opinion, the cast was great, it had brilliant stars like Sandra Bullock, Anne
Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna (was a little sceptical about her but she was
fine), Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham, Mindy Kailing, Awkwafine, who were in the
main crew and there were many more who were amazing too.
In all honesty, this movie was basically
a remake/reboot of Ocean’s 11. I swear to god the writers literally took the
script of Ocean’s 11 and followed the same formula, but they just used
different dialogues, cast and gender and except for stealing money it is
jewels. For example, Ocean’s 11 starts with Clooney in a cell talking to a parole
officer, in Oceans 8, bullock is talking to the parole officer, it is the same scene
with the same format and view.
However, that does not mean I did
not like the film. It was a nice/chill film which I can watch for my
entertainment and I did not mind it, it is just that instead of watching a new film, I am re-watching one of my favourite films for like the 3rd
time.
In addition, the wardrobe and aesthetics
of this movie were incredible in my perspective. The entire time the costumes
worn by the actors looked fabulous, during the heist and even while they were
planning it, it was stunning. Kudos to Sarah Edwards for the amazing costume
design.
Moreover, even the camera shots, setting and sets looked awesome. And it was a masterpiece job in my opinion. I am not a person who looks out for these things, but it was really good, I mean just look at this picture from the movie, isn’t it great?
Even though this was like a
remake, I think the fact that this movie had great cameos and aesthetics just
shifted the audience view from the fact that this was a remake. Like during the
main Met Gala in the movie you would just be pointing and finding different
celebrities in it, it was like a film festival, the entire group of A list
Hollywood actors just came and did a big collab.
Anyways, I think this movie was
pretty good, it had an exceptional cast, wardrobes, crew members and
aesthetics. But the fact that it was a remake of Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 was
disappointing. In conclusion, this movie gets a 6/10 from my side, and
if it had some originality in it, the movie would have been much better
