Marie Antoinette (2006) Review

Hello Guys! How are you this fine evening? Well, today I am gonna talk about the movie Marie Antoniette. This movie is the perfect combination of teen and historical fiction genres because the way it presents the history of Marie Antoniette in a teen type genre is extraordinary.

This movie has everything, a partially accurate historical representation of Marie Antoinette, romance, conflicts and to make up for the boring parts it has comedy. This movie has a nice, although a little boring introduction to the characters and plot but the rising conflicts and major events that happen during the middle of the movie makes up for it.

Moreover, the movie is set in late 1700s France representing the rise of Marie Antoinette (Probably the biggest cake fanatic in history) the former Queen of France Played by Kristen Dunst, and her fall. It shows that while also including some main conflicts she faced during her time such as problems for producing an heir to the throne. It convincingly shows how she went from an Austrian archduchess to marrying a French royal AKA King Louie XVI then to the biggest brat of France using her money to making France filthy poor, aggravating the working class and finally to her escape from the Palace of Versailles.

In my school, we are learning about the French revolution and my history teacher suggested this movie to me with other suggestions as well. In my opinion, this movie was ok-ok, it wasn’t too good nor too bad. The historical concept behind this movie was good, I liked all the historical references in it such as how when Louie went hunting he took a swarm of dogs with him, how there is a large angry mob on the gates of Versailles using torches and pitchforks, etc. Like I said the historical concept was good and the small bits of comedy in it also made it funny

However, I am not a big fan of genres such as teen or chick-flicks thus those parts of the movie weren’t really interesting to me so I didn’t like it too much either. In some parts of showing the romantic genre they took too far, and it became awkward in those parts which isn’t a thing I like.

In conclusion, the movie was a great, well-directed film with a good storyline and acting. Although the movie used a bit too much of the teen genre which wasn’t very appealing to me, thus from my biased opinion I rate it a 6.7/10.
